This page contains a sample of some of the preproduction work I completed as a layout and background artist for my senior capstone film, Epochal Juice, a story about a transfer student who must face his shyness as he tries to fit in with a group of potential new friends. The story is set in a futuristic city filed with hollo adds, robots and tube travel technology. The group travels through the city's shopping district to reach their destination, the Epochal Juicery.

This sketch of the Epochal Juicery was one of the first drawings I produced for our film. I took inspiration for the building design from Edward Hopper's, Nighthawks. Warm eye catching light from inside the Juicery could spill out of the large windows into the cool toned city, creating a striking establishing shot. The color tests below show this effect.

To the right, are two of my sketches of the interior of the Juicery, which I lined in the work above, later used by our vis dev artists to test colors on.

In the above sketch, I explored the opposite interior view of the Juicery. The finished background to the left shows how this shot will appear in the final film
I explored different shops for the city in the sketch on the right. In the layouts below, I moved some of the more interesting buildings around so that each shot would have unique features.

In the thumbnail above, I planned out how I would layer the different buildings so that a multi plane effect could be used in this panning shot. The left image shows the finished linework.
